The Provincial Municipality of Pachacámac will hold the ‘Festicuy 2014’ on March 30 in the Plaza de armas in that town.

At the event, 30 producers from this valley will exhibit their guinea pigs from the Inti and Peru races. These will be evaluated by a jury of the National Agrarian University of La Molina, which will determine which is the best male and the best female.

In addition, festival attendees will be able to taste the exquisite and healthy Cuy meat in its various preparations such as the cuy a la piedra, chactado, pachamanca underground, peanuts, spicy and ‘broaster’.

However, one of the most anticipated events is the ‘Cuy fashion’, a contest that will show the animals dressed in typical clothes from the Coast, sierra and jungle of the country.

Also, the Association of guinea pigs breeders will expose on the various forms of breeding of this rodent.

Pachacámac produces between 500 and 700 thousand guinea pigs annually, which are mainly offered in the markets of Caquetá, Comas and San Juan de Lurigancho.

According to the local mayor, Hugo Ramos Lescano,”it is not yet possible to export guinea pigs to other countries, because they request at least 10 tons.”
